By crossing two questions (AskiaAnalyse)

This option allows you to create a variable by combining the answers to two questions in pairs. For example, you might create a new variable by combining a gender question and an age question:

To cross two questions:

1. In the edit menu select create a variable.... The calculated question window appears.

2. Select by crossing two questions.

3. Next to question 1, click ....

4. Nominate the first question you want to cross (in our example, gender).

5. Next to question 2, click ....

6. Nominate the second question you want to cross (in our example, age).

7. You are then asked "Do you want to group the non-responses together?".

   • If you answer yes, askiaanalyse creates a 'Not asked' sub-total that combines the Don't Know(s) and the not asked for the two questions.

   • If you answer no, askiaanalyse will associate the 'Don't Know', 'Not asked', answer categories with another answer.
