Use this AskiaTools feature to import a paper version of a new questionnaire from an RTF file. It enables you to create a rough sketch of your questionnaire's data-entry mask in an external word processor program. It takes your .*rtf (Rich Text Format) file, which can be output by most word processing programs, and automatically imports all the questions' captions, response items' captions and Interviewer comments from the word processor document.
To access this feature, open the file menu and select import, then RTF.
If the paper questionnaire is not already saved in RTF format, open it in your word processor, do a save as operation, and select the RTF (Rich Text Format) file format.
To prepare the questionnaire for import, open the RTF file with your word processor and apply the following styles to the text of your questionnaire (see below for help on applying styles to the text In Microsoft Word):
Chapter: text defined under this style will be imported as a chapter, which is usually used for instructions given to the interviewer.
Question: text defined under this style will be imported as a question. If, immediately after this text, you have defined text with the response style, the question will be set up as a closed question. Otherwise, it will be set up as an open question.
Response: text defined under this style will be imported as response items of a closed question.
To apply a style in Microsoft Word, select the text, then type the style name in the style box in the toolbar. For example, to apply the Question style, type Question.

If you are using a different word processor program, please consult its documentation for help with applying styles to text.
Once you have specified the above styles throughout your RTF file, start AskiaDesign, and in the file menu, select import from RTF.... Indicate the path to your RTF source file; askiadesign will read your RTF file, and display a new questionnaire based on its contents. You can then edit and save this file as you would any other QES.
export to Word, and take a look at the *.rtf file in your word processor.
