To view or edit the details of an AskiaSurf volume, click the volume in the campaign tree. If the volume has been used in a reconciliation operation, the right-hand pane displays the appropriate questions: click + to expand a chapter or - to collapse the chapter, hiding the questions it contains. The bottom pane displays the details of the volume, as follows:
Name: Allows you to specify a name for the volume. This name appears in the campaign tree. You can also edit the name directly in the campaign tree by selecting the volume, then clicking it again (or pressing F2), and typing the new label.
ID: This is a unique ID that is assigned automatically to the volume when it is created, and cannot be modified.
Status: Indicates whether the volume has been reconciled or not.
Inherits from: Indicates which volume the volume inherits from, as specified when the volume was added to its wave.
Type: Indicates the file type (QES, tripe-S, or SPSS Dimensions).
Question source file: Indicates the file or database that contains the volume's question data. If the question data file has been moved, you can use this setting to specify the new location. To change this, click change... and select a data file.
Warning: when changing this setting, you must be sure that you do specify the original file, and that it is exactly the same as when it was originally added to the campaign. If you specify a different or modified file, then any existing matchings will be invalidated, so exercise caution when changing this setting.
Interview source file: Indicates the file or database that contains the volume's interview data. If the interview source file has been moved, you can use this setting to specify the new location. To change this, click change... and select a data file.
Warning: when changing this setting, you must be sure that you do specify the original file, and that it is exactly the same as when it was originally added to the campaign. If you specify a different or modified file, then any existing matchings will be invalidated, so exercise caution when changing this setting.
Question matching methods: Indicates the selected question matching methods (i.e. the question elements on which comparisons will be made between questions), for this volume. This option can be changed if reconciliation has not yet taken place for the volume. Double-click the value to open a dialog where you can select the matching methods.
Response matching methods: Indicates the selected response matching methods (i.e. the response elements on which comparisons will be made between responses), for this volume. This option can be changed if reconciliation has not yet taken place for the volume. Double-click the value to open a dialog where you can select the matching methods.
Case-sensitive matching: If this is set to true, questions and responses will be considered a match only if their text is the same case (e.g. Region will not be matched with region). If it is set to false, questions and response case does not matter when matching (e.g. Region will be matched with region).
Match using parent values:
Strict matching: Indicates whether strict matching is being used for this volume. Strict matching means that all of the selected methods must be successful. For example, if shortcut and short caption are selected as matching methods, and the shortcuts of two questions are the same - but the short captions are not - then the two questions will not be considered matched. This option can be changed if reconciliation has not yet taken place for the volume. Click or double-click the value to change it.
Do not add any new questions: If this is set to true, then new questions will not be added to the volume during a reconciliation. If it is set to false, new questions can be added, depending on the result of the reconciliation.
Selected questions: If selective question matching is set up on the volume (i.e. there is a specific list of questions which will be checked for matching, and others will not be checked), the numbers of the specified questions are shown here. You can double-click to change the selection of questions.
