Volume (AskiaSurf)

In AskiaSurf, when you reconcile a new wave into your campaign, you first need to specify where the wave data is located. The volume is the file or database containing this data. For each volume, you need to specify the following:

Each of these may be in a separate file or database, or they may be in the same file (e.g. an Askia QES file) or database.

Note: in the current version, you may only use an Askia QES file or a suitable database as the volume.

You may have more than one volume in a wave. This typically occurs where you want to add in supplementary data for the respondents who appear in the main volume (e.g. demographic data from a panel or customer database). Simply add the additional volumes to the wave. AskiaSurf matches the data in each volume either by the order of records in the file, or by using one or more common questions (e.g. a respondent ID); use the interview alignment options in the new volume dialog to determine how the matches are made.

Note: If your interview data for a single wave is contained in separate data files for any reason (e.g. interviews 1-100 in file 1, interviews 101-200 in file 2, etc.), then you must either merge the data files and add them to the wave as a single volume, or add them to AskiaSurf as separate waves (interviews 1-100 as wave 1, interviews 101-200 as wave 2, etc.).
