By dictionary (AskiaAnalyse)

This feature allows you to create a multi-coded closed question containing the words given in response to one or more open-ended questions.

To create a variable by dictionary:

  1. in the edit menu, click create a variable.... Alternatively, right-click in the questionnaire tab and select create a variable....

  2. In shortcut, enter a shortcut for the new variable.

  3. In type, select by dictionary.

  4. In the questionnaire list in the left-hand pane, locate the open-ended questions on which you want to base the new variable, and drag and drop them into the open-ended question(s) box.

  5. Leave the create a variable window open (drag it out of the way if necessary), and, in the analysis window, select dictionary.

  6. In the dictionary list, select the words you want to include in your variable, and drag and drop them into the name list in the create a variable window:

  7. You can also manually create your own categories by clicking ins and typing the desired word. Note that words are case-sensitive.

  8. Click OK to create your variable.
