This feature allows you to create a new variable by grouping existing items into sub-totals.
To access this feature, in the questionnaire tab right-click a closed question and select group responses. The group responses window appears.
In the right-hand list, select the items that you wish to group together.
Move these items into the left-hand list (in a new group) by clicking the following icon:
![]()
The group is initially titled 'New', but you should rename it to reflect the items it contains.
Add an appropriate shortcut name at the top of the window. This shortcut will be the name for the group that is used when it appears in any tables.
Finally, click OK.
When an item has been used at least once in a sub-total, it is marked with a red cross
.
To remove an item from a sub-total, select it and then click
