Calculations (AskiaVista)

This category of the properties panel allows you to define and select the calculations that you want to display in your tables. Calculations are categorised as Flat or Cross, and grouped into these two sub-categories. You can expand or collapse the Flat and Cross sub-categories as required.

The calculations that appear in your table – Flat or Cross – are always appropriate to the number of dimensions in the table. If you have a table with a question in the rows and nothing in the columns (a one-dimensional table), then the flat calculations defined in your tab template are displayed. If you then add a question to the columns, making it a two-dimensional table, the cross calculations in your tab template are displayed instead. You can change the order of calculations in the list, simply by dragging and dropping them by the handle into the desired sequence:

The name of a calculation is shown in italics if it will not appear in your results. This can happen if the options Use the calculation for tables and Use the calculation for charts are both switched off (see below), or if the Hide property is enabled for the calculation (see common calculation properties).

Adding and removing calculations

At the top of the category are controls that allow you to add or remove calculations from your table definition:

Add

Allows you to add one or more calculations to your table. The Add calculation modal window appears. Simply select the calculation types you want to add, and click Add. Note that calculations are categorised as Flat or Crossed, and then sub-categorised (as Closed, Numeric, Statistics, ...). You can expand or collapse any of these categories and sub-categories as required.

Delete

Deletes the selected calculation (to select a calculation, simply click it: the rows is highlighted to indicate that the calculation is selected). To help prevent accidental deletion, you are asked to confirm your choice.

 

Calculation options

The following general options are available for calculations:

Show caption

If selected, the calculation's caption will be shown in the results.
Alignment

Determines how calculations are displayed in relation to each other:

  • Break table: Generate a table for each selected calculation. For example, one page for the counts, a second page for the percentages.
  • Vertical: Display calculations one above the other

  • Horizontal: Display calculations beside each other.

 

Available commands

For each calculation in your table, the following commands are available:
