Opening a QES file or SQL Server database (AskiaTools)

You can run the various utilities in AskiaTools on either:

Before you use any of the utilities, you first need to open the QES file or AskiaField task.

In this topic:

Opening a QES file

Any of the utilities in AskiaTools can be run on data in a QES file. To do so, you first need to open the QES file.

To open a QES file:

  1. In the file menu, click open....

    Alternatively, in the toolbar, click open:

    open_icon

    You can also open an inverted QES file by selecting open an inverted survey from the file menu.

  2. Browse to and select the QES file.

  3. Click open.

Opening data in an AskiaField database

The following askiatools features can be run on data in an AskiaField task (the procedure is the same as for QES data):

To do so, you first need to open the AskiaField task. You will need access to the CCA machine on which the task is running.

To open data in an AskiaField task:

  1. In the file menu, click open askiafield task.... The following dialog appears:

    open_askiafield_task

  2. In connection to askiafield database, enter the connection string to the call center database.

  3. In the surveys list, select the survey from which you want to import data.

  4. Next to askia file, click ... and select the QES file associated with this survey.

  5. In connection to surveys database, enter a reference to the database's DSN, in the following format:

    ;DSN=BDDASKIA;

  6. In survey ID, enter a unique identification number for this project.

  7. In interviews storage, select the location where the interview data is stored. This can be the QES or the SQL server (in either legacy or new formats).

  8. Click OK.

Note: When using SQL databases, you must obey certain conventions when naming databases, tables and fields. For more information, see path, network.

Opening web interviewing (webinterviews) data

Sometimes, you may want to open current web interviewing data (in the database WebInterviews), for example to run an incomplete data analysis on them.

Note: You will be limited to read-only features in askiatools, such as data export and incomplete data analysis. In other words, you will not be able to make changes to the webinterviews database from AskiaTools.

To open data in an AskiaField task:

  1. In the file menu, click open a survey in webinterview.... The following dialog appears:
  2. Next to askia file, click ... and select the QES file associated with this survey.

  3. In connection to webinterviews database, enter the connection string to the call center database, in the following format:
    ;DSN=BDDASKIA;

  4. In table name, enter the name of the database table containing the interviewing data.

  5. Click OK.
