In AskiaSurf, the environment group of the options dialog allows you to set general program options. It contains the following sub-groups:
Options source: Indicates whether global or local options are in use. Global options are the settings as defined in the options dialog. Local options are question and response difference settings (found in the differences options group), located in a local settings file. If in use, these will over-ride any global options.
To use local options, you need to ensure a local settings file called SurfLocalOptions.xml is located in the same directory as the campaign file(s). Then, in the askiasurf toolbar, click use local options. To create such a file, use the export... command, as described below. Note that when the local options is found, local options are applied automatically when the campaign is opened. Any changes made to the options while the local options are in use are saved to the local options file.
Export...: This command creates a local settings file based on the current global settings for question and response differences (in the differences options group). Specify a location for the file; you should not change the file-name, because it will not work as an askiasurf settings file if you do so. To use the local settings file, you will need to place it in the same directory as your campaign files, and then click use local options in the askiasurf toolbar.
Languages:
Show source items in the current language of the campaign: If selected, source items will be displayed in the current language specified for the campaign. You can set the current language in the languages dialog (in the edit menu, select languages).
Show source items in the default language specified for each volume: If selected, source items will be displayed in the default language for each volume. You can set the default language in the languages dialog (in the edit menu, select languages).
Compare captions for the campaign default language, only. If selected, captions in languages – other than the campaign default language – will not be compared.
Recent files: Determines the number of files that appear in the recent files list on the file menu. You can specify any number between 1 and 16. You can also specify the "filepath length" shown in the recent file list. This is the number of characters of the filename to be displayed for each recent file. You can specify any value between 20 and 260. You can remove all files in the recent files history by clicking clear list.
Captions library: Enables you to specify the file used for the captions library. To change this, either type a path or click browse... and select the file.
The reconciliation sub-group allows you to specify which questions and responses are displayed in the reconciliation view. For example, you may want askiasurf to hide any questions that are matched perfectly so that you can easily see the non-matches and imperfect matches.
The group contains the following general option:
Create report for each reconciliation: When performing a reconciliation, a report will be displayed showing the outcome.
The group contains the following options for questions:
Show imperfect question matches: The reconciliation view will show questions that are matched imperfectly (i.e. pairs of questions that are matched, but which have one or more differences).
Show perfect question matches: The reconciliation view will show questions that are matched perfectly (i.e. questions that are exactly the same).
Show unmatched campaign questions: The reconciliation view will show questions in the campaign that are not matched at all.
Show unmatched source questions: The reconciliation view will show questions in the volume that are not matched at all.
View question codes: In reconciliation view's question list, a column will be displayed containing question codes.
View shortcuts: In the reconciliation view's question list, a column will be displayed containing question shortcuts.
View short-captions: In the reconciliation view's question list, a column will be displayed containing question short captions.
View long-captions: In the reconciliation view's question list, a column will be displayed containing question long captions.
View source volume: In the reconciliation view's question list, a column will be displayed containing the question source volume.
The following options are available for responses:
Show imperfect response matches: The reconciliation view will show responses that are matched imperfectly (i.e. pairs of responses that are matched, but which have one or more differences).
Show perfect response matches: The reconciliation view will show responses that are matched perfectly (i.e. responses that are exactly the same).
Show unmatched campaign responses: The reconciliation view will show responses in the campaign that are not matched at all.
Show unmatched source responses: The reconciliation view will show responses in the volume that are not matched at all.
Show newly added campaign modalities: The reconciliation view will show responses in the campaign that have been added during the latest wave.
View entry codes: The reconciliation view's response list will show a column containing entry codes.
View response codes: The reconciliation view's response list will show a column containing unique response IDs.
View source volume: The reconciliation view's question list will show a column containing the response source volume.
