Analysis level in AskiaAnalyse

Analysis level (also known as data level or simply level) allows you to specify the statistical units used in your tables and charts when your survey contains data that cannot be represented by a flat file. Examples of multiple levels include:

In terms of Askia questionnaire design, these are situations that are handled by loops.

For example, if you had a question about the employment status of each household member, this would have a different meaning at the level of individuals than at the level of households, so you would select the appropriate level in your table definition.

You can change the analysis level on individual tables and charts, or by setting the global (default) level.

Setting the level on a table or chart

You can choose the analysis level for a specific tab definition in the general tab's level option. You can select a loop and its sub-questions, and drag them into a row, a column or an edge.

Note: You can re-code a question into a different data level: in the questionnaire list, right-click the question and select change level.

Setting the global (default) analysis level

By default, your tables and charts use the global analysis level.

You can always over-ride the global analysis level for individual table or charts by selecting a specific level in the general tab.

To set the global analysis level:

  1. Open the edit menu.
  2. Click select current level....  The select a level dialog appears.
  3. The available levels are presented in a tree structure. Select the level you want to use by default. Note that if there is only one level in your data, you will not have a choice of levels to select.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Any new table definitions will use the selected global level by default.
