The rows, columns and edges panels in the table definition window determine which questions will appear in your charts and tables. At any time, you can freely re-arrange the questions in these panels (adding, removing and moving them), and thereby change the questions in your charts and tables.
Questions placed in the rows panel will appear on the vertical axis of your table, those in the columns panel will appear on the horizontal axis, and those in the edges panel will appear at the edges. For example, if you place a Gender question in the rows, and an Age question in the columns, the table or chart will display Age (across the top of the table) versus Gender.
columns or edges as appropriate. You also use the rows, columns and edges panels to customise the format of your questions.
In this topic:
To place a question in the rows, columns or edges of your table, simply drag the question from the question list into the appropriate panel (note: in the rows and columns panels, you need to drop the question into the appropriate box, rows or columns). You can freely drag and drop questions between the rows, columns, and edges panels, until the questions are positioned as required.
If you only want to include certain responses, select the question, and from the distribution panel select the desired responses and drag them into the Rows panel; only these responses will be selected.
You can drag and drop an entire loop, or just the first question of the loop, by holding down CTRL as you drag. This saves time when you want to render a table at the interview level, as it avoids the need to change the table definition's level to the relevant loop, drag it, then re-switch the level. For more information, see the section on analysis level in AskiaVista.
You can freely drag and drop questions to move them between the rows, columns and edges panels.
You can also add individual responses (or groups of them, by selecting multiple ones) into your table, by dragging them from the distribution panel at the bottom of the question tree: this creates a new question according to the response you dragged.
If you have selected at least one question, the shortcut CTRL + A (if you are using Windows) or CMD + A (if you are using Mac OS) selects all questions in the list.
