Viewing the table (AskiaVista)

At any time, you can see your current table at the bottom centre of the screen. As you construct your table, for example by dragging variables from the question list into the rows/columns/edges, the table is automatically updated to reflect your changes (unless automatic updating has been suspended). For example, if you drag Q2 into rows, the table immediately shows this. If you then drag Q3 into the columns, the table instantly becomes a crosstab of Q2 and Q3.

Note: although most options described below are available when viewing both cross-tabs and flat count tables, some are available only when viewing cross-tabs. When this is the case, it is indicated in the description below.

Expanding the view

You can expand the table to utilise the right-hand side of the screen as well as the centre, by clicking maximize:

Click minimize to restore the table options at the right-hand edge of the screen:

Suspending automatic updates to the table

If you are working with a large data-set, you might find that it takes too long for AskiaVista to update the table as you make changes to it. You can turn off the automatic updates, to prevent any delay. To prevent live updates to the table, click pause:

When automatic updates are suspended, you can click play at any time to update the table:

You can determine whether automatic updates are suspended by default, by changing the option auto-play results in the user preferences dialog.

Viewing multiple-page table results

Note: multi-page table results apply to cross-tabs only. When a raw data table does not fit into the table preview area, scroll bars appear, allowing you to view the parts of the table that are not visible.

If your crosstab stretches onto multiple pages, you can step through the pages with the pagination controls above the table:

The controls are as follows:

Command name Description

Takes you to the previous page (e.g. if you are on page 2, you will be taken to page 1).

Page number, e.g:

Takes you straight to that page (e.g. if you click 2, you will be taken to page 2).

If you click ... to the left of the page numbers, buttons for the previous group of three page numbers will be displayed (e.g. if 10, 11 and 12 are visible, then 7, 8 and 9 will be displayed). You are taken to the last page in the new group (in our example, this would be page 9).

If you click ... to the right of the page numbers, buttons for the next group of three page numbers will be displayed (e.g. if 10, 11 and 12 are visible, then 13, 14 and 15 will be displayed). You are taken to the first page in the new group (in our example, this would be page 13).

Takes you to the next page (e.g. if you are on page 2, you will be taken to page 3).

You can also step to specific pages by using the Table of contents. To view the table of contents, click Show table of contents:

Each page of your table results will have its own entry in the table of contents. Simply click a page in the Table of contents to view that page of the crosstab. To hide the Table of contents, click Hide table of contents:

If your crosstab or flat count runs onto more than one page, then pagination controls are also visible above the table, allowing you to switch between the pages; see above for details.

Available commands

The commands above the table are as follows:

Command name Description

Show/hide table of contents

Displays or hides the table of contents pane. When your analysis has more than one page, you can then display a specific page by clicking its name in the table of contents.

Note: this option applies to cross-tabs only.

Save to portfolio

Saves the crosstab to a new or existing portfolio. For more information, see saving a crosstab to a portfolio.
Pause/resume live rendering

Allows you to suspend or continue automatic table updating. If you are working with a very complex table or large data-set, you might want to pause automatic updating while you make changes to your table definition.

When automatic updating is paused, click Play to update the table and reinstate live updating:

Maximize/Minimize

Controls whether the table takes up just the bottom centre of the screen (minimized) or the right-hand two thirds (maximized). You can switch back and forth between the two options as often as you like.

Source code

Displays the source code of the results in a pop-up window. This allows you to add the text to a dashboard, web page, or to submit the page to Askia technical support in the event of a technical problem.

To select the text in the pop-up window, press CTRL + A in Windows or CMD + A in Mac OS. When it is selected, press CTRL + C (Windows) or CMD + C (Mac OS) to copy it. You can then paste the text into another document, as required.
