Caption
|
The response caption.
If you edit this property, "caption" is shown in the custom setting column of the rows/columns/edges tab.
|
|
Value
|
Allows a coefficient to be assigned to the response. This coefficient will be taken into account in statistical calculations, if the option allows calculations for numerics is activated.
Values can be pasted from one question to another, or from a text or Excel file to a question, by using the paste factors command in the rows, columns or edges tab.
Note: By default, the value is DK. Only the values assigned to single responses will be taken into account in the calculations.
Note: for the values in open numeric questions where you have used the feature find all values (see recoding numeric variables), you can specify custom values by using the assign different value checkbox (see below) and entering the value here.
|
| Assign different value |
Allows you to remove some numeric data from mean or standard deviation calculations (either to remove extreme values or to replace a specific code such as 99 with DK). Normally, when you include an open numeric question in a cross tab and select find all values, the values (often described as factors) have no impact on the mean, because the mean was always calculated on the original data. However, sometimes you may want to remove extreme values or treat a specific code as DK. By selecting this checkbox, you can override the value as found in the data, and treat it as the desired value (enter the value in the value box adjacent to the checkbox).

|
Base type
|
Allows you to specify a base type for the response. You can select from normal, don't know, and not asked. This allows you to treat a specific response as don't know or not asked in your analyses. This option applies to responses in closed and open numeric questions.

Layout
|
A group of checkbox options that allow you to customise the appearance of this response, as follows:
- Allow sorting: this response can be sorted if required by options set in the sort settings. If this option is set, 'Yes' appears in the 'Sort' column of the row, column or edge tabs. By default, this option is not activated in the Not Asked and Don't Know answer categories.
- Always place at the end: this response will always be placed last (keyboard shortcut: CTRL-E).
- Show counts: allows the counts to be displayed in the result cells.
- Show percentage: allows the percentages to be displayed in the result cells.
- Show other calculations: allows other calculations (mean, standard deviation, etc.) to be displayed in the result cells.
- Do col-sig testing: includes the column in any col-sig testing even if showing other calculations is de-selected. When reading an old portfolio, this value defaults to the one used for
show other calculations, to maintain backwards compatibility.
- Break table after: a caesura will appear after this response. The other responses will appear on the following results page to display the percentages in result cells. If this option is activated, the text page break appears in the
custom setting column in the row/column/edge tab.
- Insert empty row after: a blank row will be placed after this response.
- Treat as total in col-sig: This response will be defined as a total column in your table and as a value to be tested in significance calculations.
- Allow ranking: ranking will be used for this response.
- Allow suppression: this response can be suppressed according to any suppression rules defined in the sorting tab within table settings. If unchecked, any suppression rules will not apply to this response option and it will appear on the table regardless of its value.
- Width: Defines the column width in pixels (you can enter a custom width by clearing (de-selecting)
auto). See size for details.
- Height: Defines the column height in pixels (you can enter a custom height by clearing (de-selecting)
auto). See size for details.

Interval
|
A group of options that are only activated for discrete or interval type numeric questions which provide the capability to logically edit questions without needing to alter the original data. They are as follows:
- Interval: The answer category will be considered as an interval.
- Value: The value will be taken into account as an answer category.
- Don't Know: Non answer value associated with the answer category. To transform a value X into a non answer, it is necessary to create a new variable using a script.
- Not asked: Not interviewed value associated with the answer category.
- From: The minimum limit (select
incl to include the number you specify; e.g. if you enter 2, selecting incl will include the value 2; otherwise, the range specified includes values greater than 2 but not 2 itself).
- To: The maximum limit (select
incl to include the number you specify; e.g. if you enter 9, selecting incl will include the value 9; otherwise, the range specified includes values less than 8 but not 8 itself).
Note: by setting the values for a category, and then editing the category names in a numeric question, it is possible to re-code the question.
|
| Col-sig |
A group of options that determine how column significance tests should be performed and shown for the current response option, as follows:
- Letter: the letter or sequence of letters that will be shown to identify this column, e.g. "T", or "CC"
- Do col-sig testing: If selected, allow the test to apply to this response option. Exclude from the column sig. test, if not selected.
- Treat as total in col-sig: If selected, use this response option to define the base total for the column sig. test rather than the automatically calculated total.
|
|
Custom weighting
|
Set custom weighting options for the response. Any settings you make here will be displayed against the response in the custom settings column in the row, column or edge tab.
- Sub-population: Select the sub-population that you want to use for this category.
- Universe: Select the universe that you want to use for this category.
- Weighting: Select the weighting that you want to use for this category.
- Level: Select the level that you want to use for this category.
- Note: If you leave a setting on default, Askia will use the settings specified in the general tab.
|
|
Formatting
|
Apply special formatting to the question title in the results table:
Bold: set the response title to bold (keyboard shortcut: CTRL+B).
Italic: set the response title to be italic.
Underlined: set the response title to be underlined.
Font colour: set the response title font colour.
Font background: set the response title background colour.
- Apply to calculations: If this option is selected, the previous five formatting selections you have made will be applied to calculations, as well as the response text. If the option is de-selected, only the response text will be affected by the formatting. This option applies to responses in rows, columns or edges.
If you make any changes to formatting, this is indicated in the custom setting column of the rows/columns/edges tab.
